Assistant professor of chemistry Dr. Heidi Dahlmann was recently awarded an Organic Syntheses, Inc. Grant for Summer Research, for her project “Synthesizing and screening organocatalysts for carbonyl-olefin metathesis.” The award of $8,000 for the summer of 2023 is intended to cover one undergraduate student stipend for 10 weeks of research as well as materials and supplies. Dr. Dahlmann is one of 16 recipients of the grant this year, which is awarded annually to faculty at principally undergraduate institutions.

Beginning in May 2023, Dr. Dahlmann will work with biochemistry major Alyssa Jones on a 10-week project investigating carbonyl-olefin metathesis, a reaction that is currently being developed for application in the synthesis of medicines, organic electronics, and flavor/fragrance compounds. Students who are interested in participating in the research project during the 2023-2024 academic year are encouraged to email Dr. Dahlmann for details.
