Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota will celebrate National First-Generation Day this Saturday, November 8 with events in Toner over brunch time to spotlight the achievements and experiences of first-generation students, staff, and faculty.
The celebration will feature: free T-shirts for the first 100 first-gen SMUMN students, First-Gen Trivia sponsored by the Zeta Delta First-Gen Honor Society in the Caf at 12pm, goodies and photo opportunities for students, faculty, and staff who champion first-gen success.
National First-Generation Day is part of a national movement to highlight and support students who are the first in their families to attend college. Saint Mary’s joins institutions across the country in acknowledging the determination and resilience of first-generation learners, defining a first-generation student as: “Someone whose parents or guardians have not completed a four-year college degree.”
