Thanks to a thrilling, 7-1 win in the final game of the regular season, the Saint Mary’s baseball team locked up the fourth and final spot in the MIAC Baseball Playoffs.
Saint Mary’s will join St. Olaf, Saint John’s, and Bethel at CHS Field in St. Paul, Minn., on Thursday, with the Cardinals squaring off against the regular-season champion St. Olaf in the first game of the day at 2:30 p.m. SJU and Bethel will play the second game on Thursday with a 7 p.m. start.
Saint Mary’s will be making its seventh MIAC Playoff appearance, and first since 2021 — when the Cardinals earned the programs first-ever playoff title. SMU has also appeared the MIAC Playoffs in 2001, 2002, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2021.
The losing teams from Thursday’s contests will face each other in an elimination game at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Thursday’s winners will square off at 3:00 p.m. on Friday with a spot in the championship game on the line. The winner of the noon game will then face the loser of the 3:00 p.m. game to determine the other contender for the playoff title. The second elimination game is set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday. If Game 4 goes long, Game 5 will begin after 45 minutes of warm-up time for the involved teams.
Saturday’s MIAC Championship will begin at 3:00 p.m. If necessary, a second game will follow 25 minutes after the first to determine the double-elimination tournament winner. The champion will receive the MIAC’s automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
Tickets are required for each day of the Playoffs and can be purchased via the ticket links below. Prices are $12 for adults and $7 for students with ID. The student discount is able to be applied prior to check-out, in the shopping cart. MIAC pass holders and children ages five and under receive free entry. No outside food, beverage, cans, bottles, chairs, or coolers may be brought into the ballpark.
