On March 30, 2023 from 7:15 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Saint Mary’s students will join  hundreds of other advocates for Day at the Capitol — a powerful day of advocacy training,  skill-building, meeting with your legislators, free lunch, and networking.

Over 330 students on the Winona campus receive the MN State Grant. This program provides need-based aid to thousands of Minnesota College students from low- and middle-income families.  As the state faces competing interests during its budget process, it is important that our legislators hear about the direct impact that MN State Grant funding has for our students. They need to know first-hand how helpful the Grant is and how the Grant is helping you and your classmates achieve educational goals.

The day kicks off with a training session led by the Minnesota Private College Council that will  teach you to be an effective advocate for the Minnesota State Grant and the causes you’re  passionate about. You’ll join conversations with your legislators alongside other students. Together, we’ll ask our legislators to support college students and increase funding for the State  Grant program.

This is a great opportunity to build and practice your advocacy skills, expand your professional  network, and meet other students who are passionate about increasing accessibility and equity  through the Minnesota State Grant program. Now more than ever, your voice is crucial to  ensuring that Minnesota legislators know how important the State Grant is to students.

Transportation to and from the State Capitol in Saint Paul and lunch will be provided. All you have to  do is sign up here: https://secure.everyaction.com/1PG1VWCzQ0mOL2ghnnX7yg2.

Join us for a day of action, learn how to be an effective advocate, practice your skills, and meet  your legislators alongside other advocates.

All students are welcome to participate in this important day.
