Attention Winona Wireless users

SMUMN will be migrating to a new wireless system at the Winona Campus. Wireless connection names will remain the same after migration, (SMUMN-Secure & SMUMN-Open).

**Please note, all Saint Mary’s owned devices already have this installed so you do not need to update anything. However if you have your own personal Window’s device here on campus, you will need to follow the below steps to connect to the SMUMN-Secure network.   Over the next 2 weeks, this maintenance will occur and we will do our best to update systems during off-peak usage hours. This information was shared with our students earlier today.

Windows OS/Devices will need to download and install the ClearPass On-Guard agent in order to connect to the SMUMN-Secure network. This agent monitors and verifies that Windows devices have up-to-date anti-virus and Windows Updates to lessen the risk of viruses and security exploits. The client does NOT gather any user personal information. All other devices (MacOS, IOS, Linux, Droid, etc.) will NOT need to install this client. If you are a windows user, please install this client ASAP. If you do not install the client prior to the migration, when your residence hall is migrated you will see a splash page come up that will provide a link to download the client.

If you are a Windows user and currently on the Winona campus, you may click on this link to install the client in advance:

The IT team will start upgrading residence halls on Monday Sep 25th between 8am and 5pm (when you are hopefully in class). When the residence halls are complete all other common area buildings (Fitzgerald Library, Aquinas Hall, etc.) will be migrated after 5pm (when you are hopefully not in class). Estimated time to complete all the migrations will be 1 to 2 weeks. The wireless will remain available during this time EXCEPT during the actual time of migration for that building where we expect downtime to be about 30 minutes per location.

To install:

Download the ClearPass On-Guard Agent from this link. Once the download is finished, navigate to your downloads folder and open the ClearPassOnGuardInstall.exe file. Proceed through the installation using all the default settings and then click finish. The install should take less than a couple of minutes to complete. Once the ClearPass On-Guard Agent is installed you will be ready to connect to the updated wireless after migration.

All the same procedures will apply when connecting to the wireless as before. You will need to select the wireless connection (SMUMN-Secure) and sign in with your SMUMN username and password. If you have the ClearPass On-Guard Agent installed and Anti-virus up to date you will be able to connect.

If you have trouble connecting to SMUMN-Secure, you should be able to connect to SMUMN-Open until you get help.  For support, call the HelpDesk at 507-457-7800, email them at helpdesk@smumn.edu or stop by their office in the basement of Hendrickson Center (HC 18).
