What is Countdown to College? 

Countdown to College is a two week summer camp for students from partner schools in Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Montana. Students attend four summer’s of this academic preparation camp and recieve up to 7 college credits upon completion. Each class of students consists of approximately 25 students with 4 counselors that lead them through the two weeks of camp. Camp includes classes, field trips, enrichment session, spiritual development, and life skills. This year, camp runs from July 13-26!

 

What are the benefits of a counselor? 

  • Hourly Pay (40 hours a week)
  • Free Housing and Meals during training and camp
  • Free CPR Certification
  • Free transportation to and from campus, if needed
  • Experience counts as a Cultural Engagement Credit (if on Integratus Gen. Ed. Program)

 

Key Responsibilities of a Counselor? 

  • Year-Specific Guidance: Lead and mentor a specific group of high school students, providing them with guidance, support, and assistance throughout the program.
  • Daily Activity Coordination: Lead daily activities, including walking students between classes, facilitating skill-building workshops, and planning and executing fun and engaging group activities.
  • Supervision and Wellbeing: Maintain constant supervision and oversight of students to ensure their safety, well-being, and adherence to program rules and guidelines.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively to plan and facilitate various camp activities.
  • Camp Planning: Assist in the development and implementation of the program curriculum and schedule, contributing ideas and insights to enhance the overall experience. Assist with set up and clean of all camp facilities, activities, and organization. 
  • Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model, offering guidance and mentorship to students on a range of topics, including academics, personal growth, and college preparation.
  • Nightly Safety Rounds: Conducting rotating nightly rounds to guarantee the safety and well-being of campers during the evening hours, maintaining a secure and nurturing environment.

 

Who can be a counselor? 

Any college student ages 18-24 (does not have to be enrolled at Saint Mary’s) that is available for all of the camp dates.

 

What dates do I have to be on campus if I am a counselor? 

  • Counselor Move In Date:  July 7
  • All Day Training: July 8 – July 12. 
  • Camp In Session (Full Days): July 13 to July 26
  • Counselor Move Out Date: July 27.
