Earlier this month, Aidmiration (a 501[c]3 non-profit co-founded by MSW Program Director, Mallory Knipe) celebrated an exciting milestone with its first official event at Star Trek Las Vegas, bringing its mission of connecting fandom with meaningful humanitarian causes directly to the Star Trek community. Founded on the belief that fandom can be a powerful force for good, Aidmiration helps fans discover and support the charitable organizations and causes championed by the actors and artists they admire. STLV provided the perfect place to put that mission into action.
Throughout the event, Aidmiration highlighted a number of outstanding nonprofit organizations and encouraged fans to turn their admiration into impact. The response was incredible. Together, the Star Trek community helped raise thousands of dollars for cancer research and support through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) and The Pablove Foundation, while also bringing greater awareness and support to multiple other high-quality humanitarian organizations.
More than the dollars raised, Aidmiration’s first event demonstrated what is possible when fans come together around a shared commitment to making a difference. The generosity, enthusiasm, and curiosity of the STLV community reinforced the idea at the heart of Aidmiration: the things we love can inspire us to do good.
STLV was only the beginning. Aidmiration looks forward to continuing to build connections between fandom communities, the people who inspire them, and organizations doing meaningful work around the world.
