The Office of Advising and New Student Experience will be hosting four events this spring semester in preparation for Fall 2023 advising season. Registration for Fall 2023 will take place from March 27-March 30. All advisers are welcome!

Join us for three professional development opportunities based in NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) principles and teachings:

Monday, February 20 at 12-1pm in HC120- Proactive Advising: Using effective communication with students to ease the advising process

Proactive advising can aid in communication, increased academic motivation and persistence. Attendees will discuss critical points for outreach, new strategies for communication, and apply knowledge to example scenarios.

Thursday, February 23 at 11am-12pm in Aquinas 200- Understanding the role of Financial Aid in your advising appointments

How can understanding the basics surrounding financial aid allow you to best help your advisees? In this Q&A style session with Associate Director of Financial Aid, Joy Rockwell, learn more about how financial aid can be discussed in your advising meetings and how to address questions or make smart referrals.

Friday, February 24 at 12-1pm in Toner 9- Bring your Lunch and Learn: A discussion on advising

Using example scenarios, NACADA core values, and advising developmental theories, this session will allow for information sharing and discussion. Bring your lunch and a colleague.

Join us after Spring Break to help kick off the official start of advising season. This is a time of advisers to meet, gather resources, ask questions, and enjoy the company of your peers over bagels and coffee.

Monday, March 6 at 7:15-10 am in Aquinas 345- Advising Kick-Off
