Student Senate Meeting Minutes

01/09/2024

The meeting was called to order by President Maggie Newhouse at 7:00 p.m.

Resolutions

Resolution 002: Booths for the Cardinal Club

  • New sets of booths
  • $5,200 for two sets
  • Motion to Table Resolution 002: Jacob Fiala

  • Tabling Resolution 002: Booths for the Cardinal Club

  • Motion to table Resolution 002 passes.  Will be considered at the next meeting

Resolution 003: Vacuums for Residence Life

  •  New vacuums for student halls
  • $6,200 for 20 vacuums
  • Motion to adopt Resolution 003:  Conor Close.
    • Second: Melanie Winzenburg

  • Motion to Adopt Resolution 003 passes

Executive Board Reports

Maggie Newhouse, President

  • The new Senate Bulletin Board was moved in Griffin Hall.  It is now located on the wall across from the women’s bathroom on the larger wall.
  • The Senator and Advisor of the Year Plaques have been updated in the toner game room.
  • On January 16th, Father Burns will be attending the Student Senate meeting.
    • He will be answering the questions you all provided before the break.
    • The dress code will be business professional.
  • January 15-19 Inclusion and Human Dignity Week.
    • Jacob Fiala, our IHM Seminary Representative, will lead a prayer service at 6:45 here in Salvi before the meeting.
    •  Attendance is not mandatory, but we would appreciate it if all the senators could attend. This service is open to all of the students and staff on campus.

Sam Frick, Vice President of Academic Affairs

  • The add/drop period is ending on Sunday, January 14th

Joel Tranel, Vice President of Financial Affairs

  • Club Budget Request Forms
    • If you are a club or board member of a club, please reach out to me and the Student Senate to request a form. Forms are due February 18th at 11:59 pm.

  • Nothing to report.

Nick Kiemel, Vice President of Campus Affairs

  • Resolution for two booths for the Cardinal Club
  • Resolution for new vacuum cleaners for the residence halls
  • Feedback is being sent to Chartwells this week for improvements

    • Women’s Basketball vs Gustavus.  Gym 7 pm

    • Declare or Change Major. Toner 10 am-1 pm
    • Minnesota Marine Art Museum Student Day. Shuttles leave from Toner 5-7 .  pm.  Bring your Student ID for free admission
  • Friday 1/12
    • Men’s Hockey vs St. Olaf.  Rink 7 pm
    • SAC Bingo. Eatery 8 pm
  • Saturday 1/13
    • Women’s Hockey vs St. Olaf. Rink 2 pm
    • Men’s Basketball vs Carleton. Gym 3 pm
    • SAC Mentalist: Tom Kennedy.  Figulio Recital Hall (Performance Center) 9 pm

    • Pick Up Games with Intramurals.  RAC 7-9 pm
    • SAC Coffee Mill Ski Trip. Depart from Toner at 2:30 pm

    • Martin Luther King Day (NO CLASSES)

    • Mass for the Preservation of Peace and Justice.  STM Chapel 12:15 pm
    • Career Services, Library, and Writing Center Resume Rev-Up.   Library 3-5 pm
    • IHD Prayer Service. Salvi 6:45 pm
  • We have many new transfers this semester, so please welcome them.

Noah Kiemel, Vice President of Media and Communications

  • Petitions for Senior Class Officer Position and At Large Representative
    • Election will be held next week

Maddi Clark, Vice President of Administrative Affairs

  • Class Officers meet with me after the meeting.

Leah Parker, Vice President of Multicultural Affairs

  •  Nothing to report

Ann Merchlewitz, Advisor

  • The Video Game Room is closed.  Nintendo Switch was stolen before the break.  Waiting to see if we can get possible cameras to canvas that area
