The Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota community will celebrate Founders’ Day on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 on its Winona campus.
Founders’ Day celebrates the founding of our university by the Most Reverend Patrick Heffron, Bishop of the Diocese of Winona, over 100 years ago and the founding of the De La Salle Christian Brothers by Saint John Baptist De La Salle over 300 years ago.
All faculty, staff and students are invited to join in the festivities.
Mass – 10:45 a.m., St. Thomas More Chapel
Convocation – 1:15 p.m., Page Theatre
There will not be an academic procession with faculty for the convocation. Seating is available in the theatre for employees and students. In addition, seating will be available in the Figliulo Recital Hall, where the Convocation will be livestreamed. Twin Cities and Rochester campus employees will not be bused to the Winona campus for this event. Employees on the Twin Cities campus can join their colleagues in the University Center for the livestream of the Convocation. A livestream link will be provided for those who wish to view the Convocation from their offices, work spaces, etc.
The Founders’ Day Convocation will honor our Bishop Heffron Award winner, Deb Nahrgang, Senior Director of Communications; our Distinguished Lasallian Educator, Dr. Paul Kotz, Core Professor, Ed.D. in Leadership; and our Outstanding Male and Female Seniors. Of special note, at this Founders’ Day Convocation, the university will posthumously bestow a Doctorate of Educational Leadership, honoris causa, on Blessed James Miller ’66, M’74. This dedicated De La Salle Christian Brother and Saint Mary’s alumnus died assisting and protecting the youth he served in Central America and was beatified in Huehuetenango, Guatemala on December 7, 2019.
We hope you will join us for these events.
