It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Sister Ada Consuelo Ramírez Martínez, a
current student at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, who entered into eternal life on the
morning of Friday, July 25.
Sister Ada Consuelo was a member of the Franciscan Sisters “Cooperadoras Parroquiales de
la Asunción” and had faithfully served her congregation for the past 28 years. She was
ministering in Anahuac, Texas, while pursuing a Master of Arts in Integrated Studies through
the Latin American Sisters Initiative (LASI) at Saint Mary’s University.
She contracted West Nile virus while in Texas, and shortly after returning to her home country of
Honduras, she developed symptoms of the illness and sadly passed away.
Sister Ada Consuelo was deeply loved by her parish community in Anahuac. She was known for
her humility, joyful spirit, and extraordinary gift for music. She viewed music not simply as a
talent but as a ministry—a way to evangelize, bring hope, and share the joy of the Gospel with
everyone she served.
When she joined the LASI program, Sister Ada Consuelo shared these words that beautifully
reflected her heart and vocation:
“My goal is to continue learning and growing throughout my life so that I can use that
knowledge to serve others. That is the reason I want to continue my education.”
She embodied those words every day. Sister Ada Consuelo was an outstanding and dedicated student
who deeply valued the opportunity to learn at Saint Mary’s University. Her commitment to lifelong learning and her desire to serve others inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.Please join us in praying for the repose of Sister Ada’s soul, for her family, her religious community, her parish, and all who mourn her passing. May the Lord grant her eternal rest, and may perpetual light
shine upon her. Sister Ada Consuelo will forever remain in our hearts, and her memory will continue to inspire us through her faith, her service, and her love for
others.
