On March 10, 2026, Saint Mary’s students will join hundreds of other advocates for Day at the Capitol — a powerful day of advocacy training, skill-building, meeting with your legislators, free lunch, and networking for the Minnesota State Grant. That program provides critical support, helping make higher education possible for one out of three Minnesota college students from low- and middle-income families. Over 200 students at the College receive Minnesota State Grants.
The day kicks off with a training session led by the Minnesota Private College Council that will teach you to be an effective advocate for the Minnesota State Grant. You’ll join conversations with your legislators alongside other students. Together, we’ll ask our legislators to support college students and increase funding for the State Grant program.
This is a great opportunity to build and practice your advocacy skills, expand your professional network, and meet other students who are passionate about increasing accessibility and equity through the Minnesota State Grant program. This year your participation is more important than ever. There is a $102 million funding shortfall in the Minnesota State grant program. Starting next fall, grants may need to be cut by more than 30% if the Legislature doesn’t act to address the shortfall. Legislators need to hear from you about the importance of these grants.
Transportation to and from the State Capitol in Saint Paul and lunch will be provided. All you have to do is sign up here: https://secure.everyaction.com/ViPC_-OYgEGBoWgmAlcSVA2.
Registration closes on February 24, 2026.
All students are invited to join us for this day.
