We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Dr. Jerry Shih, Associate Professor and valued core faculty member in the Psy.D. in Counseling Psychology program.
Dr. Shih joined the Psy.D. core faculty in 2020. Most recently, he oversaw both the Clinical Case Presentation and the Individualized Mentorship, advanced aspects of the doctoral training curriculum. Previously, Dr. Shih taught for over ten years in the M.A. in Counseling and Psychological Services program. He served as the Assistant Director of the student counseling center at the University of Minnesota for over a decade, and for 15 years, he was the Clinical Supervisor at the Neighborhood Involvement Program, helping to make affordable and accessible mental health services available to the community. He was a lifelong learner and a gifted artist in many kinds of media, most recently filmmaking.
A private memorial was held Saturday, November 8, at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel. Cards or letters can be sent to the PsyD Program at 2500 Park Avenue, Minneapolis, 55404, and will be delivered to his husband, Michael. Plans to host a remembrance event on campus are underway and will be shared.
We remember Dr. Shih for his kindness and wisdom as we acknowledge the immeasurable impact he has had on students, clients, and colleagues over the years. We are grateful for his time with us.
