Happy crossover season, Cardinal fans! There’s plenty of action to catch up on and even more to look forward to as Saint Mary’s heads into a jam-packed week of competition and celebration across campus.
MIAC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
After a short break to prepare, the Saint Mary’s cross country teams are set to compete in the 2025 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships this Saturday, November 1, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The event will take place at the Highland 9 Cross Country Trailhead, with the men’s 8K kicking off at 11:00 a.m., followed by the women’s 6K at noon.
Admission is free for all spectators. Fans planning to attend are encouraged to review the MIAC Cross Country Championship Information Sheet for parking details and event expectations.
VOLLEYBALL HOMESTAND
It all comes down to the final stretch for the Cardinal volleyball team (10-12, 3-4), which enjoys a crucial three-match homestand this week. Saint Mary’s dropped a hard-fought four-set match to St. Catherine last Friday, falling just outside the MIAC playoff picture but the Cardinals still have a chance to create some late-season magic.
The week begins with a nonconference matchup against Wartburg on Wednesday, October 29, at 6:00 p.m. The Cardinals then host MIAC leader St. Olaf (20-6, 8-0) for a Halloween showdown on Friday, October 31, at 7:00 p.m.
The team wraps up regular-season play on Saturday, November 1, at 7:00 p.m., hosting Bethel (12-8, 5-2) in a Senior Night celebration honoring this year’s graduating Cardinals.
MEN’S SOCCER CLOSES OUT THE SEASON
The Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team (4-9-3, 1-6-1) looks to finish strong with two final home contests. After a tough 2-1 loss at St. Scholastica on Saturday, the Cardinals return home to host Saint John’s (10-4-3, 3-4-1) on Tuesday, October 27, at 3:30 p.m.
They’ll then close out the 2025 campaign on Saturday, November 1, at 1:00 p.m., when Gustavus Adolphus (12-4-1, 5-3-1)visits Ochrymowycz Field.
WOMEN’S SOCCER SEASON FINALE
It all comes down to this Saturday. After edging St. Scholastica 2-1 on the road this weekend, the Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team (10-5-2, 4-4-2) returns home for a high-stakes matchup against Gustavus Adolphus (7-6-4, 4-5-1).
The game serves as a rematch of last year’s MIAC Quarterfinals—this time, with postseason hopes on the line once again. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m., with a pregame ceremony to honor the Cardinals seniors.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY SEASON OPENER
It was a memorable weekend on campus as the Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team helped host a successful Ice Breaker event, welcoming No. 6 St. Norbert on Friday and MSOE on Saturday for two exhibition games. The event drew great community support and showcased an exciting weekend of hockey and campus festivities.
With exhibitions behind them, the Cardinals now turn their focus to the start of the regular season. They open play on Halloween, traveling to Concordia Wisconsin for a 6:30 p.m. matchup before a rematch on Saturday, November 1, at 3:00 p.m.
MEN’S HOCKEY HITS THE ROAD
The Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team also got its first taste of game action last weekend, splitting exhibition time between the road and home ice. The Cardinals traveled to Lawrence on Friday, October 24, before returning home to host UW–Stout on Saturday following the community skate at the Ice Breaker.
Next up, Saint Mary’s begins the regular season with a weekend series at Lake Forest College in Illinois. The Cardinals face off against the Foresters on Friday, October 31, at 7:05 p.m., and again on Saturday, November 1, at 4:00 p.m.
Beyond the games, Cardinal fans should stay tuned for this week’s Cardinal Challenge, an exciting opportunity to support Saint Mary’s Athletics.
Go Cardinals!
