Student Senate Meeting Minutes

10/7/25

President Garrett Rotzien called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  

Members Present: Garrett Rotzien, Taryn Dornseif, Priyanka Satish, Reese Heitzman, JJ Garcia, Noah Lahner, Zoe Fink, Scott Walker, Angel Garcia, Nozomi Osada, Bella Norris, Maggie Albers, Grace Leis, Elizabeth Dellessio, Alexa March, Caroline Paulson, Destinee Hoffman, Mollie Koch, Kylie Faerber, Peyton Berg, Karli Zetah, Noelle Buckley, Kylee Paul, Kathy Tran, Amanda Siemienas

Members Absent: Javier Rodriguez and Lizzie Pike

Guest Speaker: Matt Klosky (Business Professor & Works in the Makerspace)

    • There has been a kitchen built on the 3rd floor of the Common Room of Saint Mary’s for students, staff, and clubs to use. It took about 3 years for Matt Klosky to build, so thank you!
    • He is a part of the entrepreneurial studies program on campus to help innovate new ideas for our campus to benefit from.
      • Looking to put a mini golf course on campus. This would be for students to run as a facility for students, families, and the public to come use. 
      • He is looking for student input on getting an Entrepreneurial Club started on campus and if students would be interested in this.
  • If you are interested in joining or have ideas for Matt Klosky, please contact him! He is looking for student voices and your voice! As a Student Senate, we are wanting to put some concrete corn hole/bean bags in the Plaza for students to use!

Executive Board Reports

Garrett Rotzien, President

  • We WILL NOT have a meeting next week because of break!
  • Committees are finalized, the chair of your committee should have reached out to you over email.

Noah Lahner, Vice President of Financial Affairs

  • Those who are on the Finance Committee should’ve received an email from me. I am excited to work with you all this year!

Javier Rodriguez, Vice President of Campus Affairs

  • Highway clean-up is October 25th at 9am! Forms will be sent out soon for everyone to sign.

Zoe Fink, Vice President of Academic Affairs

  • I am looking for a senator to be another representative for the school curriculum meetings! They are bi-weekly on Wednesdays and the committee would prefer a male student but can be anyone.

Reese Heitzman, Vice President of Public Affairs

  • Nothing to report.

Priyanka Satish, Vice President of Student Affairs

On-Campus Counseling:

  • Provided by Beth, now a university staff member (no longer through Winona Health).
  • Location: Hendrickson 134
  • Scheduling: Via Penji – no limit on number of sessions.

Teletherapy (Uwill):

  • Students sign up with SMUMN email.
  • Automatically receive 8 sessions; more available at no cost upon request.
  • Includes crisis phone lines and wellness videos.
  • Hendrickson 138 available as a private space for teletherapy sessions.

Athletics Home Games:

  • 10/7 at 6PM Women’s Volleyball play Concordia College
  • 10/8 at 7PM Men’s Soccer play University of Wisconsin-Stout
  • 10/10 at 7PM Women’s Volleyball play Hamline University
  • 10/11 at 3:30PM Women’s Soccer play Saint Catherine University

Taryn Dornseif, Vice President of Media and Communications

Lizzie Pike, Vice President of Administrative Affairs

  • The sophomore class officers had a very successful weekend selling concessions during Family Weekend! 

JJ Garcia, Vice President of Multicultural Affairs

  • Student Success is providing transportation to the People of Color Career Fair held in the Minneapolis Convention Center on Tuesday, Oct 28. The sign up sheet is located at the Student Success Center!

  • We raised $148.61 selling concessions at Family Weekend for our first fundraiser!

  • Amanda: Could we get posters around campus that advertise to students what the fundraising money goes towards?
