Winona State University is hosting Braver Angels workshops on its campus on Thursday, September 2, 2025.    Braver Angels is a national organization that provides workshops designed to bring Americans together to bridge the partisan divide and strengthen our democratic republic.  The Braver Angels Way states the following:

We state our views freely and fully, without fear.

We treat people who disagree with us with honesty, dignity and respect.

We welcome opportunities to engage those with whom we disagree.

We believe all of us have blind spots and none of us are not worth talking to.

We seek to disagree accurately, avoiding exaggeration and stereotypes.

We look for common ground where it exists and, if possible, find ways to work together.

We believe that, in disagreements, both sides share and learn.

In Braver Angels, neither side is teaching the other or giving feedback on how to think or say things differently.

WSU has indicated that our faculty and staff are welcome to attend the workshop for the public that day.

In a time when politics can so easily drive us apart, how do we build stronger communities that bring us together? This interactive workshop invites people from across the political spectrum to come together for honest conversation, fresh perspectives, and practical skills for navigating our differences. Through a mix of large- and small-group discussions, we’ll explore how polarization  shapes our families, neighborhoods, and nation—and discover what each of us can do to bridge divides and strengthen the ties that hold us together.
