Student Senate Meeting Minutes

Maggie Newhouse called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

- Started as the Dining Director here at Saint Mary’s two months ago
- 8 ½ years with Chartwells as Marketing Manager at Winona State before holding the position at Saint Mary’s
- Staci Gallahue is the Chartwells Dietitian for our campus and can meet with students if they have any questions
- Started as the Dining Director here at Saint Mary’s two months ago
- A goal of Chartwells is creating experiences that build connections by doing a lot of events. Some will start now and others will start next semester.

- April 15th during lunch students can make their guacamole for their tacos that lunch that day.
- Low on Flex? You can add flex on your account without tax. Look around the TV’s on campus to scan the QR code. This carries over from year to year. Will show up on your flex the next day.

- The Scoop Newsletter is an infographic sent to all of our email that recaps Thursday Specials and events going on in the cafeteria. This comes out every meeting.
- Dine on Campus is an app that shows all the meals being offered that day along with the dietitian information.
Budget Request: ASA (Requesting $390)
- The club is looking for 4 movie rentals for movie nights, spring roll making, culture fair, candy and popcakes, mooncakes, dumpling making, decorations, plastic utensils, and various other activities.
- The club meets once a month, but next year is hoping to do two big events per month.
- 50 students show up to ASA events.

- The club is looking for matte photo paper, keychains, leather and regular beads, string, ramen cups, and snacks for their events.

Budget Request: Benefit Dance Committee (Requesting $1,690)
- This committee supports someone who has been struggling from any sort of struggle. All the money from the dance goes toward one person each year to help support the individual.
- The Benefit Dance this year is March 28th the auction and March 29th is the dance. Flyers and social media posts will be made around campus. This is free for students to join.
- The club is looking for a DJ for the dance, party decorations, snacks, drinks, stamps, and possible alcohol sales.

- The club is looking for t-shirts for tournaments, new pickleballs, snacks and drinks for tournaments, and more nets that are more sturdy.
- 38 people have registered for the tournaments and sometimes waitlists occur.

- The club is looking for wax for skis, medals, spray paint, flags, trail passes and fees for Yellowstone, Tower Ridge race, Pre-Birkie Race Fee, North End Classic Race Fee, flyers for advertising the races and the team, mileage and rentals for traveling.

Executive Board Reports

- The presidential election is next Tuesday. Please vote via email or tabling!
- Father Burns Dinner is coming up!
- Please submit your Senator of the Year and Executive of the Year for the Senators.
Joel Tranel, Vice President of Financial Affairs
- First round of budgets are completed, congrats and buckle up it’s gonna be a long season
- I believe we have picked out a golf simulator. Garrett will be meeting with Tim Stensgard and Colin from IT tomorrow to help wrap that up and get another update on that.
- Still waiting on an update from Jay and Brian on the possible capital improvement on skates.
- Club leaders continue to look out for emails from me at your club meeting.
Mario Rodriguez-Gomez, Vice President of Campus Affairs
- We approved more excess money than necessary for the Signage Project, however the rest of that money will come back to us.
Noah Lahner, Vice President of Academic Affairs
- Tabled for career services today, handshake profile challenge happening from 10-22, class with the most additional completed profile gets $200 for their class fund, there is a handshake workshop tomorrow night at 5 pm in conjunction with that.
Caden Rodning, Vice President of Public Affairs
- Last day to sign up for the Day at the Capital!
- Next Tuesday at the meeting we will do training for what we will be doing on Day at the Capital.
Ali French, Vice President of Student Affairs
- Mens and Women’s tennis are home Saturday and Sunday.
- The musical is running this weekend 7pm Friday and Saturday night.
Taryn Dornseif, Vice President of Media and Communications
- Eboard petitions will be available on Thursday, March 13
- Email me with the position you are interested in running for if you would like a petition and I will send you a copy to have filled out
- Those petitions are due completed Thursday, March 27
- If anyone still wants to do an Instagram takeover, there are still slots available through the end of this week and next week.
Lizzie Pike, Vice President of Administrative Affairs
- Junior Class Officers will be selling alcohol in the pub on Saint Patrick’s Day during Trivia! Stop by with a valid driver’s licence 21+ to support the juniors. Cash only.
- Sophomore Class Officers will be selling a drink, chips, and hotdogs at the baseball game on April 5th. Come support! Cash only.
- Sophomore Class Officers will be selling Bublr’ at the softball game on April 12th. Come support! Cash only.
Shania Vanlewin, Vice President of Multicultural Affairs
- For any juniors or seniors that are looking to complete cultural engagement requirements you can reach out to Shania or Professor Selke to get more information. They are posted on Saint Mary’s Today sometimes, as well.

Sophomores

- On March 17th at 7pm, the junior class officers will be selling alcohol on St. Patrick’s Day in the Pub for students 21+, with a valid driver’s license and student ID. Cash only!
Seniors
- Will be posting Gaslight details soon.
- Narrowing down the options for Senior Day.
- Planning the Senior Luncheon for the seniors after the practice graduation ceremony.
Senator Concerns:
- Zoe Fink: Brother Leopold treadmills aren’t working well.
