Shelley (Haake) Mosquera B’01, a standout middle blocker from the 2000 NCAA Volleyball National Tournament team, will return to Winona, where it all began with a few of her teammates.
She is to be honored and inducted into the Saint Mary’s Hall of Fame, alongside teammates Amanda Edmond B’01, Amber (Rajtora) Haschenburger B’01, former coach Mike Lester, and Tony Piscitiello B’69, M’82.
The five will be celebrated at the Cardinal Excellence Fund Dinner, next weekend.
“I honestly never thought of this as being on my radar as a possibility,” said Mosquera. “I am deeply honored and humbled to know that myself and our amazing team will be remembered in this special way.”
A two-time First-Team All-MIAC selection and the third member of this Hall of Fame class to compete in the 2000 NCAA National Tournament, Mosquera had an impressive four-year career with the Saint Mary’s volleyball team. She finished her career with a .313 attack percentage (4th all-time) and 319 total blocks (4th all-time).
Mosquera left Saint Mary’s with an impressive list of achievements.
Ranked fifth in program history with 1,320 kills and sixth in total points with 1,642.5. One of the Cardinals’ most potent offensive threats, Mosquera holds three of the program’s top 10 single-season attack percentage records—tenth in 2000 (.306), ninth in 1999 (.323), and still holds the single-season record with a .381 attack percentage (367 kills, 104 errors on 690 attempts) in 1998.
“We all worked so hard to rebuild the program at that time, and it was thrilling to see it turn into a regional tournament berth!”
“I will always remember the community at SMU. Faculty, staff, and students created such a special place so that it felt like a home away from home.”
