“How Minnesota served Middle-earth: Tolkien’s crucial indigenous and American inspirations” presented by John Garth, Thursday March 13 at 7:00 pm in the Toner Lounge.

To earn Cultural Engagement (CE) credit for the talk, students will need to watch a short pre-talk video on their own time, attend the talk, and complete a post-talk partner-discussion on their own time. There is a limit of 20 spaces available for CE credit. If you are interested in earning CE credit for this experience, please contact Dr. Kristen Sellke (ksellke@smumn.edu) before noon on Thursday, March 13. Once signed up, you will be sent more information on the pre- and post- talk requirements.

John Garth is known worldwide for his writing on Tolkien’s life and work, especially Tolkien and the Great War (2003) and The Worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien (2020), which have been translated into 8 languages. He is a member of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and was a Fellow in the Black Mountain Institute for 2015–16. Garth received both the Outstanding Contribution in the Tolkien Society Awards in 2017 and the Mythopoeic Award for Scholarship in 2004.
