Access Services has made some updates to the Notice of Accommodation (NOA) letter that we would like to share with faculty and staff.
The updates include:
- An ‘Effective Date’ has been added to the NOA document.
- An explanation about the effective date has been added to the NOA. It reads, “These accommodations are not retroactive and can only be applied from the effective date moving forward.” Therefore, if you do not receive accommodations for a student until after the semester begins, you are not required to provide accommodations for the days in the semester that are not covered by the effective date.
- Information about contacting Access Services has been updated on the NOA letters. It now reads, “If you have questions about anything in this letter, you would like consultation or outreach regarding access issues, or if you believe that any of these accommodations are a fundamental alteration of your course, please contact the office of Access Services at accessservices@smumn.edu.”
- Also, if a student has an accommodation for flexible attendance and you would like to meet with the student and Access Services to discuss the number of days the student can miss without their absences being a fundamental alteration of the course, please contact Access Services. We will meet with you and the student to have this conversation.
