WINONA, Minn. – The fall sports are beginning to wind down as we have hockey contests this week. To start the sports heavy week, the Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team gets the week started with a home contest Tuesday, October 22nd at 7 p.m. and the men are to follow at home Wednesday at 7 p.m., both teams facing Macalester. On Friday, volleyball travels to St. Catherine University for a late match. We also will get to preview the men’s and women’s hockey teams on Friday as they both hit the road for exhibition games. It is a busy Saturday on campus for Cardinal athletics with six home events to attend.

Women’s Soccer Home Stand

The Cardinal women’s soccer team is coming off a successful week after clinching a spot in the conference tournament beating St. Olaf and St. Scholastica. The Cardinals take on Macalester to start the week, as mentioned, and will cap off the week with senior day and youth day on Saturday, October 26th for a 1 p.m. game.

Macalester is 2-4-2 in MIAC play beating St. Scholastica and Gustavus earlier in the year. They are looking for a win as they are on the brink of missing out in the postseason tournament.

Saturday will be a tight match up as the Cardinals take on the top ranked team in the conference, Carleton. The Knights are undefeated in conference action and the two teams are looking to get the higher seed going into the postseason. Despite what will be a great test, the Cardinals will be celebrating five dedicated seniors before the game.

Men’s Soccer To Host Week of Games

The men’s soccer notched another game under the win collumn after getting their first win in conference play on Saturday against St. Scholastica in a 3-2 win. They look to keep things rolling playing Macalester on Wednesday, October 23rd for a 7 p.m. game. The Cardinals will also host Carleton on Saturday, after the women’s game, on October 26th for a 3:30 p.m. game also celebrating their seniors and hosting a youth day.

Macalester is 4-3 in conference action most recently beating St. Scholastica 1-0 and coming off a loss to Carleton, who the Cardinals will face Saturday.

On an eventful Saturday, the Cardinals will face Carleton, who is also 4-3 in MIAC and on a four game win streak, at 3:30 p.m. after celebrating their six dedicated seniors.

Volleyball on the Road

It is a light week for the Cardinal volleyball team as they have a solo road game this week on Friday traveling to St. Kates for a late game at 7 p.m. The team is looking to tally their first win in conference and continue on their road stand.

St. Kates is 5-1 in conference and is currently on a five game winning streak most recently defeating St. Olaf and Macalester.

Cardinal Hockey is Back!

Both the men’s and women’s hockey team hit the road for their first looks of action on the season. The men’s hockey team will take on UW-Stout in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. and the women’s team will travel to De Pere, Wisconsin to take on St. Norbert for their exhibition match up at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the women’s hockey team looks to host an open scrimmage to the public at 2 p.m. and the men will take on Lawerence at 7 p.m. All exhibition and scrimmages are yet to be determined for live video viewing or stats. Please check out our websites scheduling calendar for updates on viewing opportunities.

We wish all our athletes the best in their competitions and safe travels. Go Cardinals!
