WINONA, Minn. – Another busy week in Saint Mary’s athletics! To start off the week, the Cardinal men’s soccer team is to host St. Olaf Tuesday at 7 p.m. before hitting the road for a Saturday match and the women’s soccer team plays at home Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. game against St. Olaf with another road match Saturday. The women’s volleyball team heads to their last tournament of the year in Whitewater, Wisconsin over the weekend. Lastly, another busy Saturday for the cross country team as they travel to Rock Island, Illinois for the Augustana College Interregional Invitational.
Men’s Soccer Home and Away
The Cardinal men’s soccer (6-6-1) team looks to get back on the winning track after falling in the last four conference games. The team hosts St. Olaf College at home this Tuesday at 7 p.m. to start the week and then hit the road Saturday to travel to Duluth, Minnesota to take on St. Scholastica at 3:30 p.m.
St. Olaf will be good competition for the Cardinals as they are 5-0 in conference. Most recently the Cardinals were defeated by Bethel whom the Oles had beaten 2-1 earlier in the year. The Oles are coming off a non-conference loss against UW-Platteville and a 4-1 win over conference opponent Hamline.
The Cardinals will travel to Duluth Saturday to face St. Scholastica (3-10-1) (1-4 in conference). The Saints are also looking to get another win under the win column as they are on a three game losing streak. Their one win in conference was against Concordia College, a team the Cardinals tied with two weeks ago.
Cross Country in Illinois
Both cross country teams are traveling to Rock Island, Illinois to compete in the Augustana College Interregional Invitational for the second year in a row. The Cardinals will compete Saturday with the women’s to start at 11 a.m. and the men’s to start at 11:45 a.m. This will be the fourth meet of the Cardinals season and they are currently coming off their best meet of the season with a plethora of Cardinals recording new personal records.
Women’s Soccer Split Games
The Cardinal women’s soccer team is red hot and on a three game winning streak! The team (8-2-3) is taking on St. Olaf Wednesday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. start at the Och. They will travel to Duluth, similar to the men, for a 1 p.m. start to face the Saints.
The Oles are in a similar situation as the Cardinals having the same conference record of 4-1. This game is crucial for both teams whereas the winner of this game will be bumped up a spot in the MIAC rankings.
The Saints are currently last is MIAC action without a win this season. They are 0-6 in conference and hungry for their first win. The Saints played St. Olaf and lost 4-0 earlier this month and are looking to have a win before the season ends.
Volleyball Non-Conference Tournament
The Cardinals volleyball team has struggled as of late. They travel to Whitewater for an overnight non-conference tournament playing Carthage College on Friday at 4 p.m. and ranked UW-Whitewater Saturday at noon.
Carthage is currently 10-4 in play and will be a good test for the Cardinals before taking on the ranked host school.
The Warhawks are 16-2 on the season and will be a great test for the Cardinals before returning back to conference action.
Goodluck to all the athletes in action this week and safe travels to all that are on the road. As always, Go Cardinals!
