Student Senate Meeting Minutes
10/8/24
The meeting was called to order by President Maggie Newhouse at 7:00 p.m.

Bella Stone, Book Club Presentation
- Book Club is based on genres, instead of chosen books, so different types get done ● This would give everyone a chance to be involved
○ Have different authors
- This can be a connection for students in college as well as the possibility to promote reading in college
- Fun and safe space for everyone to be heard
- Hoping to go and read to students in classrooms, hospitals, and nursing homes ● The first meeting was on Tuesday and a total of 10 people
○ The genre was chosen as well
Executive Board Reports
Maggie Newhouse, President
- The Photography Club has been approved by the Executive Board to be Student Senate recognized.
- MarCom will be offering headshots for the Senators on Tuesday, October 22nd, from 5-6:30. You can go to the office (Heffron 45) during that time frame to get your picture
taken. Everyone needs a headshot for the website and you will have the picture afterwards to use in the future. Please make sure everyone gets this done. ● Lasallian Day of Service is October 26th at 9 am. This is mandatory for all senators unless you tell me otherwise and you are excused.
- I will send you all a volunteer sign-up sheet for Trunk or Treat, which is October 27th from 1-4 in the Hall of Fame
- There will be no Student Senate meeting next Tuesday the 15th. Enjoy your break and safe travels.
Joel Tranel, Vice President of Financial Affairs
- Finance committee will be meeting for a few minutes after with Joel
Mario Rodriguez-Gomez, Vice President of Campus Affairs
- Capital improvement poll will be launching after Fall Break for the students to give their suggestions for 5-7 days
○ After, will be meeting with the
Noah Lahner, Vice President of Academic Affairs
- General education assessment committee → General education program outcomes – updates where they have asked about getting results from department chairs in the near future, allowing for analysis of that stuff in spring 2025
○ Doing this because the new General Education program does not have the outcomes laid out that the former Integratus program had, and they need this for accreditation purposes
- Approved New Program Development Process/Revision Process
○ New changes generally have to do with working with admin more explicitly to make sure the proposals have all the things they need to go forward
■ So that the programs don’t get through the curriculum committee and then get shot down by admin for stuff that could have been caught earlier
○ Concerns about the length of the process, redundancy of the process, discouraging people from proposing new programs, pressure on CC members to rubber stamp things already approved by admin
