Dr. Bill Handschin is stepping out of the classroom after a teaching career with Saint Mary’s University that started in 1992. Dr. Handschin has served many departments within the Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs including the MA in Counseling and Psychological Services Program, the Counseling Psychology PsyD Program, The Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesiology Program, among others. While Dr. Handschin will continue to be available for mentoring individual students and new faculty members, as well as to work on special projects, he will be missed in the classroom. Dr. Handschin has positively impacted the lives of many students over his 30 years of teaching. As one student commented “Dr. Handshin has a real passion for his profession and it comes out in his teaching!” He has also been a reliable, kind, and knowledgeable colleague who has contributed greatly to each department in which he taught. Dr. Handschin would like to express his gratitude to the faculty members, department heads, and students who have shared life in a learning community with him, helped him to grow in his role as a teacher and shared their knowledge and experiences with him. He would also like to acknowledge the many individuals in the Saint Mary’s community that don’t teach but who have made his life easier by performing services necessary for the smooth operation of the University. He hopes that his legacy will be those colleagues who carry on traditions of academic excellence and committed service to the community.

A celebration of Dr. Handschin’s many contributions to the Saint Mary’s community will be held on Thursday, October 10th 2024 at Luna and the Bear at 18 W 26th St, Minneapolis, MN 55404. All are invited to attend.
