Three Saint Mary’s University athletic teams are in action this week with only one of the six scheduled contests coming at home. The men’s soccer team looks to get the week of events started on Tuesday, Oct. 8th for a 4 p.m. start at Ripon for the last non-conference game of the year. Women’s soccer is home Wednesday at 7 p.m. before traveling to the cities on Saturday where the men are scheduled to play after. Volleyball continues conference play on the road this weekend traveling Friday and Saturday.
Men’s Soccer Away This Week

The Cardinals men’s soccer team will play its last non-conference game of the season tomorrow traveling to Ripon, Wisconsin with a slatted 4 p.m. start then hitting the road again Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. start taking on Bethel.

Both the Ripon Redhawks and the Cardinals are looking to get back on the winning track as the Redhawks have lost the last three contests and the Cardinals, before tying Saturday’s game, were on a five game losing streak. The Redhawks are 0-3 in conference play, similar to the Cardinals.

The Bethel Royals are 2-3 in conference play after losing their previous two matches. Earlier in the year, the Royals lost to Bethany Lutheran whom the Cardinals had beat.

Women’s Soccer Splits Home and Away

The women’s soccer team is off to a great start to conference action as they have already surpassed the amount of wins they totaled last year to this year and they are not even half way finished. The Cardinals host non-conference opponent UW-Stout Wednesday at the Och for a 7 p.m. game before traveling on Saturday to play conference opponent Bethel at 1 p.m.

The Stout Blue Devils are looking to capture their first win of the season as they are 0-7-2 to start and 0-2 in conference. The Blue Devils most recently played UW-Stevens Point, who the Cardinals just tied a week ago, and lost by one goal.

Bethel is 1-3-1 in conference action with an overall record of 5-4-2. They have lost two of the last three match ups and tied the last against Macalester. Bethel had played UW-Stout earlier in the year winning by two goals.

Volleyball Weekend Games

The Cardinals volleyball team is looking to bounce back after falling winless in conference action, they are 9-10 on the season. The team is away this week with a game Friday at Augsburg for a 7 p.m. start and travel to Northfield Saturday to face Carleton at 5 p.m.

The Auggies have the exact same record as the Cardinals on the season as they are also 9-10 but have one recorded win in conference against Saint Benedict. The Auggies have won their most recent game against UW-River Falls in non-conference action in five sets.

Carleton has one win in conference against St. Scholastica winning in four sets and are 1-2 in conference action and 9-7 on the season. Carelton faced Gustavus and had also got swept, similar to the Cardinals.

We wish our student-athletes the best of luck in their contests this week and safe travels to all. Live updates and streaming can be found on our website saintmaryssports.com and @SMUMNATHLETICS on X.
