We are officially a month into Cardinal athletics and there is no slowing down now! The men’s soccer team gets the week started with a home event Wednesday at 7 p.m. and the volleyball team will host Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. for the two home events of the week. The cross country teams and the women’s soccer team heads off campus for away events Saturday along with the men’s soccer team for their second game of the week.

Men’s Soccer Two Events

The Cardinal men’s soccer (5-4) team looks to get back on the winning track after falling in the last four games. The team plays MIAC opponent Gustavus Adolphus College at home this Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then hit the road Saturday to travel to Moorhead, Minnesota to take on the Cobbers at 3:30 p.m.

It will be no easy task for the Cardinals Wednesday as they face the undefeated Gusties (8-0-1) who are currently ranked 4th in the nation. The Cardinals had beaten Bethany Lutheran by one goal whereas the Gusties defeated that opponent by two goals and the only notable difference in schedules was that the Gusties defeated the University of Dubuque and that was a game the Cardinals dropped.

The Cardinals will be facing Concordia College (1-8) Saturday and making the longest trip of the season. The Cobbers are also looking to get another win under the win column as they have not won a game since August.

Cross Country in Iowa

Both cross country teams are traveling to Waverly, Iowa to compete in the annual Wartburg College Dan Huston Invitational where the women’s race is set to start at 10 a.m. and the men’s to follow at 10:45 a.m.

The two notable Cardinal runners have been Isaiah Fitzgerald who has been the top men’s runner in all all meets and on the women’s end, Mya Slavin, the freshman, who has been on top in each of the three meets.

Women’s Soccer On Road for One

After a busy three game week for the Cardinal women’s soccer team, they slow it down with one road game at the end of the week. The Cardinals (5-2-3) will travel to Moorhead, Minnesota to play at 1 p.m. before the men’s game. The team won two of the three games they played and tied the last game on Sunday versus UW-Stevens Point.

Both the Cardinals and the Cobbers (6-2) have been starting well and have been on a roll as of late. The Cobbers have one other game this week versus Hamline, whereas this will be the Cardinals only game of the week.

Volleyball Single Game Saturday

The Cardinals volleyball team has a light week with hosting one game Saturday, Oct 5th against MIAC opponent St. Olaf slatted for 4 p.m. The Cardinals are looking to bounce back after two tough MIAC games falling 0-2 in conference.

St. Olaf (11-4) is 1-1 in conference action as they just lost in five sets to Bethel and got the win over Hamline this past week, both teams the Cardinals have not faced yet. The Cardinals are looking to steal their first win in conference this Saturday.

Goodluck to all the athletes in action this week and safe travels to all that are on the road. As always, go Cardinals!
