Brother Robert Smith, FSC ’76, Ph.D., senior vice president for university initiatives and special advisor to the President and the Very Rev. James P. Burns, IVD, Ph.D., ABPP, join Hendrickson Medal for Ethical Leadership recipient Mary Jo Copeland.

Due to a previous commitment, Mary Jo Copeland was unable to attend the 2024 Hendrickson Forum in April, yet she received the Hendrickson Medal for Ethical Leadership this month. Often referred to as “America’s Mother Teresa,” Copeland is undoubtedly a guardian angel to the many thousand homeless and working poor who cross her threshold at Sharing and Caring Hands each month. Copeland has a long commitment to helping the inner-city poor and less fortunate in our society. Her work provides an outstanding example of how we all can make a life-changing difference in the lives of others through volunteering and commitment. Recipients of the Hendrickson Medal for Ethical Leadership have made significant contributions to the Twin Cities community and exhibit ethical leadership that is globally oriented, innovative, and creative. Further, recipients advocate for engaged citizenship that significantly improves the lives of others’ appreciation for diverse ideas and perspectives.
