Since 1970, Americans have celebrated Earth Day every April. In the 1990s, the celebration grew into a global event and people started recognizing April as “Earth Month”. This Earth Month, leading up to Earth Day on April 22, sustainability-minded faculty and staff encourage our campus community to think and talk about three important environmental themes: Food (April 1-7), Energy (April 8-14), and Recycling (April 15-21). Our campus library has prepared an amazing resource guide full of materials to spark reflection and conversation (books, films, websites, podcasts)! For example, do you know how the food you eat (or throw away) impacts the environment? Or that you can get electricity from solar energy without putting panels on your roof (or even if you don’t have a roof) by buying into a community solar garden? And that, while recycling is great, the best way to cut down on plastic waste is to reduce consumption and utilize reusable products first!
